Amazing Grace

I have been waiting for the right time to post this one to the website. It was recorded one year ago in late August of 2011, after learning of the unexpected passing of a teacher of mine from my schooling in Vancouver.

I had been toying with this melody for a couple of years beforehand, finding different phrases and chord voicings. When I heard the news about my teacher I felt that it was time to finally record it.

Friends and family had set up a memorial page on the internet in the days that followed for people to share their stories, their pictures, and their favourite memories. I posted a video of the recording of this version of Amazing Grace as my way of honouring my teacher's memory. That video and the song itself have remained fairly private over this past year but I wanted to share it with you tonight.

Steve, thank you again for your support, your guidance, and your dedication to your students. We all benefitted from our time with you and I will carry your teachings with me always.

Michael, this is my first exposure to your music. It is drenched with emotion and demands - invites - the listener to participate, and feel. Thank you. Beautiful.
